“For I was hungry and you fed me.”

In response to the ongoing and growing humanitarian crisis brought about by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, our CFM Peace and Social Concerns Committee has made a $500 donation to World Central Kitchen to assist with feeding refugees. This is in addition to a donation from  our Meeting to Wilmington Yearly Meeting in support of the Ukrainian people.

The chefs and volunteers of World Central Kitchen are on the front lines and throughout the region. They have served millions of hot, nutritious meals to refugees in Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Romania, and Moldova. They have responded immediately and compassionately to this crisis, as they have with other efforts, such as the earthquake that devastated Haiti.

World Central Kitchen was founded in 2010 by award-winning celebrity chef Jose Andres. It is a NGO (non-governmental organization), with 501 (c) (3) status. Chef Andres is a Spanish immigrant and a citizen of the United States. The mission of the organization he founded and leads is to use culinary training programs to improve communities and strengthen economies in times of crisis. The goal is to be a first responder and to collaborate/partner where needed with local chefs to address hunger following disasters.

World Central Kitchen has a 100 – Exceptional rating from Charity Navigator, the world’s largest and most utilized independent nonprofit evaluator. If you would like to join our Peace and Social Concerns Committee by adding your individual donation as we follow the spiritual and moral imperative to feed those living with hunger during this dark time, please make checks payable to Cincinnati Friends Meeting and designate World Central Kitchen.
